The Wonders of Electricity & Magnetism – Sept 2005

Explanation: Talk given for kids (and their parents). Prof. Lewin covered quite thoroughly the basic concepts between Electricity and Magnetism with many demonstrations. He demonstrated a device (the Kelvin Water Dropper) that can create some 20,000 Volt using only running water. He charged a girl up to 100,000 Volt using a Van de Graaff generator. Her hair would spread and stand up – very funny. He beat a boy with fur to charge him up to some 20,000 Volt and he discharged him through a neon flash tube which lit up briefly.
