THE MAN WHO FORETOLD TOMORROW
Abul Kalam Azad’s interview by Shorish Kashmiri,
Matbooat Chattan, Lahore

I do not remember which friend sent this URL to me. But to this kindred soul I am going to remain forever grateful. For want of time I could only read this today. Am I surprised? No, I am shocked with pleasant disbelief. How clearly did Azad see the future of Pakistan in particular and of the Muslims of the sub-continent in general, amazes me. For any student of Pakistan, partition and of the Muslim dilemma of the sub-continent I strongly recommend this article.
YOU CAN COMFORTABLY REPLACE THE FUTURE TENSE WITH PAST TENSE AND YOU HAVE BEFORE YOU THE HISTORY OF THE SUB-CONTINENT.
I am grateful to bhai Arif Mohd Khan for unearthing this valuable piece of history. Quoted below are just two paragraphs to show the farsightedness of this leader: “Strictly speaking, Muslims in India are not one community; they are divided among many well-entrenched sects. You can unite them by arousing their anti-Hindu sentiment but you cannot unite them in the name of Islam.
To them Islam means undiluted loyalty to their own sect.” “The real issue is economic development and progress, it certainly is not religion. Muslim business leaders have doubts about their own ability and competitive spirit. They are so used to official patronage and favours that they fear new freedom and liberty. They advocate the two-nation theory to conceal their fears and want to have a Muslim state where they have the monopoly to control the economy without any competition from competent rivals. It will be interesting to watch how long they can keep this deception alive.” Every lover of truth and freedom in Pakistan owes to reach this to every other Pakistani.
May understanding grow and peace prosper between India and Pakistan. http://newageislam.com/books-and-documents/maulanaabul- kalam-azad–the-man-who-knew-the-future-of Pakistan- before-its-creation/d/2139
