THE ANATOMY OF FAILURE
Here is an old article from my archives.
It argues that celebrating success too much, or for that matter, condemning failure so much, would encourage people to claim success through short circuits and live in denial of failure. That this contributes to an immoral society is obvious.
Since we fail more often than we succeed we ought to teach our young how to take failure in good grace, and to rise again.
The author was moved to write this upon reading of how a youngster killed herself when she failed to secure the marks her mother expected her to.
I thought it was criminal that we place our young in such hopeless situation where taking their lives appeared to them more graceful than taking failure in their stride.
Whether at school exams or in hard politics, failure is a given possibility, and societies that deplore failure, or vulgarly celebrate success are destined to remain hypocritical.
