Sold, Tortured and Repeatedly Raped, Now Jaya Is a Guardian Angel for Sex Workers
Jayamma grew up an orphan. After tough adolescence and teenage, she finally met a man she loved and married. This man, over the course of time, started succumbing to alcoholism and forcibly sold Jayamma to a broker for sex work. Jayamma quit the sex work to start Chaitanya Mahila Mandali (CMM), a social venture that provides education, LifeSkills and child protection to children of women in sex work and those who are at risk of being trafficked. Her organization has directly impacted 4428 women in sex work, of which 1000 women are now engaged in alternative livelihoods. She has worked with 3332 children of sex workers to keep them in government schools and prevent them from harm.
