RAPING THE RAPE
A girl of Ahmedabad revealed to her parents how her neighbouring boy “has been raping” her “at different locations, during the last three months”. On their complaint the neighbour is arrested. Her explanation as to why she went to all those places and had sex with him and deceived her parents and betrayed their trust? Because he promised to marry her!
When a girl, of her own consent and will, chooses to sleep with someone, for whatever consideration [a job, a role in films, money.. whatever] this takes away the element of “force” which should be the cardinal test for determining the heinous crime of rape.
In the present situation she was deceived by her friend in a willful transaction, if her version is right. At best she carries the rights of “an unpaid seller” of goods and services. And this is a normal everyday deception in mercantile business. Where on earth is rape involved in this, considering that she went with him willingly, at several times, to different locations, including hotels, friends’ houses and clubs over several months?
The so-called Women’s Organizations have trivialized the barbaric sin of rape by espousing such causes as this girls’. Thus rape, a heinous crime for men and a source of eternal shame for the women, has tuned as a weapon in the hands of playful, irresponsible, mischievous girls. Go and have good times and turn the tide when caught, or for greed.
Bizarre complaints of “rape” have been reported: a university student reporting how her teacher used to repeatedly “rape“ her for awarding extra marks, a film actress accusing her director of repeatedly “raping” her over two years promising a role in his film, a nurse accusing Mike Tyson of raping her 17 years ago, a prostitute accusing Julius Assange of “raping” her several months ago.
I invite FB comments on whether a “rape” took place in any of the foregoing situations, considering that no minor was involved in them.
I used to think that sex had by one party under duress or force exerted on another party, with no mutual consent or consideration or promise involved, was rape. And where such consenting party was a minor such consent stood vitiated. But equally the victim must be seen to have protested this act, and reported at the crime at the earliest possible opportunity. I seriously fear that such blurring of distinction between consented or even deceived sex, and outright rape will reduce the barbarity of the sin, and eventually trivialize this heinous crime.
