Periods- a taboo prevalent in the Indian society even in the 21st century
In a century where the world is progressing in all sectors, menstruation taboos are still a thing in India! A study conducted by Tata Institute of Social Science, funded by UNICEF and published in British Medical Journal, tried to find out the access to menstrual hygiene adolescent girls have in India. Girls are not allowed to touch their family members, enter the kitchen and the temple, take bath during their cycle and a lot of other silly restrictions without any basis is still prevalent in India. What is even more saddening is that the girls consider themselves impure because of the restrictions and rules imposed on them while they were too young to even understand what was happening in their bodies.
