MEERA SRIRAM, MUMBAI
Meena Sriram helped raise Rs. 25 lakh to pay for multiple surgeries for her driver’s son who was born with holes in his heart. Aditya Shinde, the six-year-old boy, needed two open-heart surgeries and one heart transplant. Meena’s driver Rupesh Shinde had been despondent trying to get his son the treatment he needed. But even when a heart was made available for the transplant after waiting for seven months, Rupesh realised that the cost of the surgeries would lead to a crushing debt. This was when she took charge and raised necessary funds within the week. Meena also helped Rupesh travel to Chennai for the surgeries. Despite complications, the procedures were successful. And today, Aditya is walking again.
