India Has the Highest Number of Child Brides in the World
Child marriage is a violation of child rights and has a negative impact on physical growth, health, mental and emotional development, and education opportunities. Going by the National Family Health Survey-4 statistics, nearly half the women between 20-24 years of age get married before the age of 18 (age of consent) in Rajgarh district. More than 60% of the men between 25 and 29 years of age get married before the age of 21, while nearly 7% of women between 15-19 become mothers or get pregnant. Child marriage remains a social evil that India has seemingly had a hard time eradicating.
