HAPPY BIRTHDAY PARLIAMENT
ON this 60th birthday of our Parliament I offer congratulations to all my countrymen. Since this morning I was privileged to hear the stories of how this prime institution evolved. Though the speeches left much to be desired, broadly it was a gracious show on the floor of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, for once.
Not many countries, including some in our neighbourhood, could remain functional democracies. In the midst of all her infirmities, India has somehow defied the western skeptics and doubting thomases and remained a thriving democracy.
I, as a citizen of this nation, and also as a member of its minority, reap parts of the fruits of this parliamentary democracy. And I owe to protect and nurture it. I pledge to do so. Do you, too?
