Game of death: Momo Challenge is trapping young minds
These are games that do not physically exist, hidden in a world that can only be found by a select few (mostly teenagers). They trap young minds and push them towards a bottomless pit. You have to perform several self-harming dares and the journey ends with suicide. Cyber-bullying has been taken to a whole new level with the Blue Whale Challenge (2016), Momo Challenge (2018) and many more in the making. Dr. Sapna Bangar, a psychiatrist at Mpower, a mental health center based in Mumbai, recalls a case she handled recently. “Sunil, 16, was brought to us when an aunt noticed he had posted a picture of himself standing at a height — one of the tasks on the Blue Whale Challenge — on social media.” “These online games are created in a way to give you instant pleasure,” says Dr. Alokananda Dutt.
