A housewife, Falguni Doshi, figured out an innovative way of helping the needy. She provides wheelchairs, crutches, kneecaps, etc for Rs. 1 To Rs. 5 per day. She initially gave the equipment for free but then people would not value things and damaged the equipment. To avoid this, she started charging one rupee per day as rent for her equipment and keeping the cost of the equipment as ‘deposit money’ with her. For those who cannot afford to pay, the orthopedic items are given on just a rental basis. On average, the life cycle of such equipment is about two years, after which Falguni invests in new ones. Nearly 7 thousand people have benefited from her offers.
