BRIEF POLITICAL ANALYSIS
The recent developments don’t appear to augur well for the BJP
The rise of political forces strongly aligned against the party – such as Chandrababu Naidu in the South and Mamata Banerjee in the East – are adding to the woes of the party, already saddled with a plethora of troubles on the economic front.
For Congress, this comes as Godsend. Although momentarily this would push it to the second place in different regions, on the whole, it will reap the benefit of anti-Modi sentiment, even if not exclusively. And this is costing it very little. Its strategy seems to be to lie low and let the sentiment strengthen and then jump into the fray with a bang, and encash.
BJP, on the other hand, has managed to create strong foes. As a result, it has to fight many a battle, on many a front, distributing its resources thin. That should affect its effectiveness overall.
As voters, we may only wish and hope that all this ends sufficiently peacefully so as to let the new government – whichever it be – focus development and harmony.
