‘Father, a girl’s first love’. The place a father holds in girl’s life is irreplaceable. Where a father is responsible to guard his daughter’s modesty, some outrages it. But what could be worse than getting punished for being the victim?
An incident took place in march 2016 in Pachvad village of Maharashtra, where a man raped his 13-year-old daughter for over four months and impregnated her. They belong to Gopal community, a Nomadic tribe, which has caste panchayat to seek justice. When panchayat took notice of this incident, they beat up not only the father but also the girl for not resisting rape and imposed a fine of Rs.3000 on her.
Incidents like these are the reasons women still fear raising their voices against abuses and are clear indication of the need of an effective judicial system in villages of India.
