VENKATESH, CHENNAI
Venkatesh, a teenager, puts his life in danger almost every day for the sake of others. He is a familiar sight at Chennai’s popular Marina Beach who has saved several hundred people from drowning. There have been instances when he almost lost his life or sustained fractures while trying to save people from drowning. Despite the danger, he continues to save the lives of people and instinctively jumps into the sea whenever he sees someone in danger of drowning. He did his first rescue act when he was 13 years old and treats this purely as a social service. Venkatesh does this without any selfish motive or expectation of money/praise in return.
