KILLING IN THE NAME OF HONOR
Where India is progressing economically, socially it seems like we are going backwards. Social evil like honor killings is a blot on the progress made by our country.
In March 2016, a young Dalit man was hacked to death for marrying an upper caste girl, who herself narrowly survived the brutal assault in a Tamil Nadu town. Sankar had married Kausalya, 19, who is from the ‘Thevar’ community. Surveillance footage showed about three men attacking V. Sankar, an engineering student, with sickles and machetes when he and Kausalya went to a departmental store. He succumbed to the injury while being rushed to the hospital. Traumatized by the attack, the girl attempted suicide two months later, but survived.
Such cases rising everyday clearly indicates that it’s high time we should stand together against such evils and eradicate all the communal and religious differences.
