Dear Editor
IRAN EARTHQUAKE
We have arranged with the Iranian Embassy in India to pick up from SPRAT office any material contributed for the victims of Iran’s earthquake. The evidential confirmation of the embassy is attached.
Fresh as they have emerged from the haunting memories of Gujarat’s earthquake of 2001, the Gujaratis feel the anguish of Iran’s earthquake victims. Consequently there appears a groundswell of support and empathy for the people of Iran.
As reported by you many Gujaratis want to contribute commodities, medicines and perhaps money. We offer to channelize this aid to the victims through their embassy. Necessary clearance of GoI will be obtained for any money remittance or it will be channelized through the GoI itself.
Its Governors / Advisors include eminent Gandhian, professors of IIMA, former cabinet ministers, a chief minister, cabinet secretary, a diplomat etc. led by Dr Yoginder Alagh, the former Power Minister of GoI and ex VC of JNU.
SPRAT will receive relief material and money at its main office and also at its various CARAVAN centres. The formal press note is reproduced below which kindly publish urgently in solidarity with the victims of this ghastly human tragedy, and oblige.
