Dharna Against ISIS
SPRAT has always strived for a just and fair society. It has worked for justice and compensation for the victims of all violence, by anyone, anywhere, specially in the post Godhra and Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts. It strongly condemned the excesses of Hindutva groups against Muslims and other minorities as well as of Islamic extremists against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan. It opposed both people’s and state terrorism – from Gujarat to Gaza.
The conscience of all peace loving and fair minded people has been brutalized by reports of heinous barbarities committed against Christians, Yezidis and Shiites in regions of Iraq and Syria.
In the wake of US invasion of Iraq, and again on 2002 carnage, millions of people, in several cities throughout the civilized world took out rallies and held protests. India, Indians, Ahmedabadis – and specially Muslims – could not remain mute spectators and maintain stoic silence on such heinous crimes committed in the name of Islam.
To express deep resentment and condemnation of the Muslim community in particular and of all conscientious people in general, SPRAT had proposed to organize a dharna as follows:
Time | 5:30 – 6:30 PM on Wednesday the 27th Aug 2014. |
Venue | Outside the Town Hall, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad |
SPRAT appealed to all women and men of goodwill to offer their support and join us for a few minutes during the dharna. It requested NGOs and other religious and civil society organizations to send their representatives along with their placards and banners unreservedly condemning the aforesaid atrocities.
It is generally alleged that Muslims remain silent when some Muslims commit such atrocities. Active Muslim participation in such actions was widely welcomed and had silenced such misplaced criticism.
