Subhashini Mistry,West Bengal
Subhashini Mistry was widowed at the age of 23 when her husband died due to lack of proper medical treatment. She was left with 4 hungry kids to feed. She did all sort of jobs to accumulate enough money that she would use to build a hospital which treated the poor free of cost. After years of meager jobs and savings, she was able to buy a plot and slowly Humanity Hospital came into being at Hanspukur village in West Bengal. Here the doctors work free of cost and do not charge the patients. In her journey to build this hospital, she had to make immense sacrifices which included giving away 2 of her children to orphanage.
