Representation to Ms Sonia Gandhi
Hon Ms Sonia Gandhi
United Progressive Alliance
Your grace, statesmanship and sincerity have endeared you to all right thinking people. They have suddenly raised the stock of politicians and returned to politics its once hallowed aura. Not only the surrender of the office of Prime Minister of India but also the subsequent graceful way of dealing with the Prime Minister have enhanced your stature to legendary proportions.
My admiration for you predates these occurrences. Your office has at least three letters from me, including a strategy paper for the elections. For the Congress victory I toiled, too, publishing and distributing over two million brochures and speaking throughout Gujarat. And I asked nothing in return, nor did I ever remind you of our sacrifices. No, we were not completely altruist. We wanted justice for the victims of Gujarat and took it for granted that the Congress would deliver it.
The Muslims of Gujarat have been in a significant way responsible for the victory of the Congress. Their suffering to some extent has resulted in your triumph. But the Congress seems to have let them down.
I present a copy of the Memorandum I have submitted to the Prime Minister. I am sitting hungry and sad on a road-side on a Satyagrah. No, it is not against the Congress or anybody else. It is to sensitize people to the reality of times. Will the Congress rise to the occasion, Madam?
With warm regards,
